Who is Blocking your Path to Happiness

by

How many times do we hear the phrase, “life is too short?” It’s usually associated with some tragic event such as death and or a terminal illness like cancer. I used to think we take life for granted but we are really living life in a sleepwalking state of being. The sad part about this is we don’t know we’re sleeping because it feels normal to us. We’ve snuggled up with this notion of being content in the state we find ourselves. We saw our parents live this way and we still see it in our family and friends.

Many people aren’t living with purpose and don’t have a sense of fulfillment. Are you getting up every morning going to the same job that you’re not happy with, but it pays the bills? One of my clients described her job as a “check and chair”. That sounds like self-imposed misery. Are you in relationships that don’t provide true happiness but you don’t want to be alone. Buckminster Fuller said, “There are three kinds of people in the world, those who are asleep, those who are stirring, and those who are awake.” He goes on further to tell us what we need to do if we encounter those that are sleeping, stirring or awake. Ask yourself, “Am I sleeping or stirring?”

How often do we hear the phrase, “Life is too Short?”

My maternal grandmother lived life to the fullest. Although she worked over 30 years as a housekeeper for two attorneys, she did it on her own terms. She loved hard, worked hard and played hard. She was always fully present in the moment. She was a living example for me, as well as my other six grandmothers. And though, I had great role models, I was still tossing and turning… stirring.

I’ve always believed we were created to enjoy our time here. I couldn’t rest in the belief that we were put on this planet to be unhappy or miserable. I was neither happy nor sad but I always knew there was more to life. I had a choice and I consciously woke up four years ago. I encourage others to wake up when they’re ready.

I’m living my happily ever after and I know you can live happily ever after too if you would only wake up. So, what state are you in? Are you sleeping or stirring? Are you awake and ready to explore all that life has to offer? You have a choice.
